Industries Using Underground Construction
The underground construction sector builds tunnels, chambers, shafts, and passageways to run a variety of subterranean utility, drainage, water, oil and gas, and sewer lines. We have many drilling, excavation, and types of construction equipment at our disposal, so our team of construction workers and engineers can finish your project efficiently and safely. Our equipment and vehicle fleet allow us to tunnel deep below the earth’s surface using remote controls and high-tech software. Patriot Utility Services brings decades of experience to the underground work zone.
With our engineers and consultants at the helm, you’ll save money and precious time completing complex projects that require subterranean drainage systems, pipes, or water lines. Our underground construction services include but are not limited to:

What to Expect Throughout the Construction Project
After assessing the land, soil condition, and any other important factors the project manager will survey the land. Most construction-site excavation projects involve some type of earthwork, either to fortify the soil, remove dirt in preparation of a subsurface foundation, or to ensure compact soil foundation. The project may also require sitework; horizontally drilling or vertical potholing is sometimes needed to secure bases, beams, and trusses.
If the site’s elevation is found to have voids and holes we may need to grade the land with excavation equipment.
Mass excavation is another type of excavation dig and soil removal service that we offer. This is a common form of site excavation used for several types of projects, including:
- Water retention ponds
- Streets
- Street drainage systems
- Parking lots
- Gypsum mining
- Ditch Control
- Light ore mining
- Channel excavating
- Building pads
- GPS control systems
Using our professional excavation services will allow your organization to scale commercial construction projects. Take your team’s bandwidth to the next level by subcontracting the underground construction services to us, your local veteran-owned construction company specializing in subterranean projects.

Construction Site Soil Extraction
To determine if you have a trench in your worksite plans, note the size difference. An excavation with a deeper than wide opening is a trench.
According to OSHA, a trench cannot be wider than 15 feet. Trenches on the other hand are much deeper than they are wide. See the full quote from OSHA’s Trenching and Excavation Manual below.
“OSHA defines an excavation as any man-made cut, cavity, trench,
or depression in the Earth’s surface formed by earth removal.
A trench is defined as a narrow excavation (in relation to its length)
made below the surface of the ground. In general, the depth
of a trench is greater than its width, but the width of a trench
(measured at the bottom) is not greater than 15 feet (4.6 m).”
